What do you charge? We charge 10c ($0.10) a word, so the cost of having your text edited will vary depending on the size of the piece(s) you would like edited.
How long does it take?As a general rule, we try to turn around a manuscript in under a month. Smaller pieces will, of course, be returned to you much more quickly. We may require more time for particularly long or difficult pieces.
It may also take longer depending on our workload. If you find the turn-around time unacceptable, we'll be happy to refer other editors for you. What is your process?Finding in-line edits difficult to follow and nearly impossible to parse, Sonia prefers to create comments for all her edits. Yes, even with punctuation. This is both because she doesn't want to interrupt the flow of the words on the page, and also because there are simply some edits that you may not agree with, in which case you can simply delete the comment and be on your way.
How do I pay? There is a non-refundable charge of 50% before work will start on the manuscript, the rest required before the completed edits will be delivered. You can pay the entire thing up-front also, if you prefer. Most do.
Can you arrange a payment plan?Sure! However, work will not commence on a manuscript until the 50% threshold is reached.
What if I don't like/agree with the edits? That is the beauty of the comment system for editing. If you find the edit or suggestion doesn't work for you, you can simply delete the comment and happily ignore it. All edits, particularly when it comes to story elements, are merely suggestions. You don't have to implement them if you don't like them.
Will you offer a refund if I don't like the edits? No.
Will you format the manuscript for publication/submission?No. If you're looking for formatting services, we highly recommend our friend Éric Desmarais. They've formatted for Sonia in the past, and have always done a marvellous job. We will, however, create headings of chapter titles where that is applicable, as that helps us navigate the document while editing. You may choose to keep them or delete them as you prefer.
